nutrion and emotion works both ways.

I've been seeing changes with people that juice or eat health and those just starting.
HOW NUTRITION AFFects
EMOTIONS AND BEHAVIOR
By Lawrence Wilson, MD

© December 2009, The Center For Development

An intimate relationship exists between nutritional imbalances and psychological or behavioral symptoms and conditions. This is sometimes called the body-mind connection. Hair tissue mineral analysis, when performed and interpreted correctly, illustrates this close connection. It can also indicate causes and corrective action needed in most cases of mental and emotional illness.
Since this is large claim, I will illustrate with a few short cases. Much more on this subject is available in the book I wrote, Nutritional Balancing And Hair Mineral Analysis and in various other articles on this site.

AUTISM

More and more research indicates that autism is a biochemical disorder of the brain. This is our experience as well. The role of mercury, other vaccine-related toxins, toxic metals, toxic chemicals found in mother’s milk, pharmaceutical drugs, vaccines and other sources, can all contribute.

Intestinal dysbiosis and food allergies also play a significant role in many cases. These children can do extremely well on a nutritional balancing program. See the articles on autism on this site for a case history and much more information.

CALCIUM, MAGNESIUM, AND ZINC -
THE BIOCHEMICAL SEDATIVES FOR HYPERKINESIS AND MANY LEARNING DISABILITIES

Joey, age three, was diagnosed as learning disabled and hyperkinetic. It was difficult for him to sit still for more than a few minutes. Based on his hair tissue mineral analysis, he began taking a food supplement containing calcium, magnesium, and zinc - three elements that help calm the nervous system. Within two days his mother reported he was more relaxed and easier to manage. He began to sleep better, and was able to sit still and play like a normal child.

Calcium raises the threshold at which nerves cells fire, thus reducing the irritability or sensitivity of the nervous system. A person whose tissue calcium level is low is prone to nervous irritability. Zinc is another anti-stress nutrient. Zinc deficiency is associated with emotional instability. Magnesium is another powerful sedative. Magnesium sulfate is routinely given to patients during heart attacks as a sedative medication. For more information, read Attention Deficit.

BIOCHEMICAL DEPRESSION
- THREE TYPES, AT LEAST

Case history. Norma complained of fatigue and depression. A tissue mineral test revealed very elevated calcium and magnesium levels, and low levels of sodium and potassium.
This pattern is associated with great fatigue and a very sluggish thyroid and adrenal glandular activity. We call this tendency an exhaustion stage of stress or a slow metabolic or oxidation rate. It is the most common pattern associated with feelings of depression.
With corrective diet and the several nutritional supplements, Norma's moods became more even within three months. She has since remained well for over 10 years.

Norma also had a second indicator for depression. Her hair tissue calcium level was above about 175-200 mg%. This is called a calcium shell pattern.
This pattern is associated with psychological withdrawal. Often it occurs in persons who are very emotionally sensitive who are under a lot of stress, or who do not handle stress that well. They withdraw and depression is one of their common symptoms.
Correction is similar to the first situation, namely to support and enhance the activity of the adrenal glands and the thyroid gland to allow the person to make more energy within the body cells.
This approach, using only a natural diet high enough in protein and vegetables, low in sugars and fats, plus a few nutritional supplements of thyroid, adrenal, B-complex vitamins, a digestive aid and some calcium and magnesium to allay anxiety and help the person relax, usually resolves this type of depression as well. It might take a little longer than the first situation above, but not necessarily.

Norma does not have this situation, which is more serious than the other two. It is a ratio of sodium to potassium in the hair tissue that is less than about 2.5:1. This is called an inversion of the Na/K ratio.
A low Na/K ratio of this type is a further indicator of fatigue, blood sugar imbalance, resentment, frustration, hostility and other metabolic problems as well.
In these instances, the supplement program must include a little copper (up to 3 mg/day), some extra manganese (up to 15 mg/day) and some zinc as well. We use a product called Limcomin by Endomet Labs to supply all these and more in one tablet.

When done properly, all three types of depression can be resolved, often in a matter of months or less, without the need for drugs. Of course, if there is a lifestyle or emotional issue that must be addressed, this should be done as well or one is simply treating a symptom, nothing more. This will not be as effective as a complete improvement in the lifestyle of the person. However, the nutrition programs we offer will assist with psychological treatments of all kinds by strengthening the body and assisting the brain to function more clearly.

Copper imbalance. This is another common cause of depression. Still others involve other toxic metals and other tissue mineral imbalances such as a fast oxidation rate with a low sodium/potassium ratio. This is more common in men, while the copper imbalance is more common in women. For more information, read Depression And How To Correct It.

OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER OR OCD

This is commonly associated with copper imbalance, manganese toxicity and perhaps other biochemical imbalances. As these improve, often the symptoms of OCD also improve a lot.

BIPOLAR DISORDER

Individuals with bipolar or manic-depressive disorder often have an underlying imbalance of slow oxidation and often copper imbalance. In addition, they often have a four highs pattern on a hair test or others indicating extreme stress. The combination of these two traits leads to the common pattern of days of high energy followed by a period of very low energy and depression. This can be corrected in most cases with nutritional balancing science in a relatively short time of months, usually, and with relatively little difficulty if one is willing to follow the program carefully.

SCHIZOPHRENIA

Copper imbalance, mercury toxicity, manganese toxicity, cadmium toxicity and other imbalances are associated with schizophrenias. Most respond beautifully to balancing the body chemistry. Results can be fast, but may take longer if a person is far out of balance.

Copper and Schizophrenia. Joan, age 18, was a patient in Scottsdale Camelback Hospital with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. She responded poorly to medication and psychotherapy. Tissue mineral testing revealed a copper level of 40 mg%, about 15 times normal. Joan was placed on a diet and nutritional supplements to reduce tissue copper.

Her condition improved so radically she was released from all psychiatric care within six months, and returned to high school the following September. Excess tissue copper stimulates the biogenic amines, neurotransmitters associated with depression, anxiety, mood swings and schizophrenia. Copper imbalance is quite common but goes undiagnosed because the tissue mineral test is not often done.

SEIZURES OR EPILEPSY

Nutritional balancing programs have helped many people with epilepsy and seizures even when medical tests have failed to detect an obvious cause for the seizures, and even when drug therapy has not worked at all. See the article on this website regarding more details about handling many cases of Epilepsy.

OTHER TOXIC METALS AND MENTAL HEALTH

More on Copper. anyone interested in the emotions and their relationship to body chemistry needs to read the two articles on this site, Copper Toxicity Syndrome and Copper Elimination Symptoms. Copper is involved in numerous emotional and psychological disorders and random symptoms such as anxiety, mind racing, mood swings, irritability and others. This is because copper is a very bioactive mineral, especially in relation to the nervous system. It is associated with stimulation of the biogenic amines, epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine. It is also involved in serotonin, monoamine oxidase (MAO) and other extremely powerful neurotransmitter substances and chemicals that influence nervous activity.

Lead. Thousands of children in the United States are affected by lead poisoning. Lead can cause mental retardation and hyperactivity in children, and violent behavior in adults.

Mercury. The mad hatters in Alice in Wonderland were mercury-toxic. They rubbed mercury on felt to make hats. Mercury accumulates in the brain, where it can cause severe behavior changes. Silver amalgam fillings, fungicides and paints are sources of mercury.

Aluminum. Hair levels of aluminum are increasing rapidly in the American population. Research links excess aluminum with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Aluminum is acquired by drinking soda and beer from aluminum cans, and from anti-perspirants, anti-acids, table salt, cosmetics, salted foods, tap water, aluminum cookware and perhaps occupational exposure. It can be removed from the body if detected early enough.

Cadmium. The Journal of Learning Disabilities, Vol. 18, #10, 1985, pp. 609-612 reported that among 980 male U.S. Navy recruits entering basic training, a significant correlation was found between hair cadmium levels and behavior problems. "The three subjects with the highest cadmium level all displayed serious behavior difficulties in recruit training". For more information, read Cadmium.

OTHER NUTRIENT DEFICIENCIES AND BEHAVIOR

B-complex vitamins are essential for proper nervous system functioning. Many people report more energy and less depression when they take thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3) and pyridoxine (B6). Pantothenic acid (B5) also helps energy production. Two other members of the B-complex family, choline and inositol, act as natural tranquilizers.

Many other nutrients can affect behavior. L-Taurine and l-tryptophan have a calming effect. L-phenylalanine and l-tyrosine can enhance thyroid activity and improve energy and mood. There are others as well.

HYPOGLYCEMIA AND BEHAVIOR DISORDERS

Carbohydrate intolerance is a common nutritional disorder that produces severe behavior changes. Diets high in carbohydrates, and deficiencies of manganese, chromium and other minerals are often involved. Among the most common symptoms of hypoglycemia are confusion, irritability, anxiety and at times violence. It is quite simple to identify carbohydrate intolerance and correct it with diet and food supplements, yet this common malady is often overlooked. For more information, read Hypoglycemia.

FOOD INTOLERANCE AND BEHAVIOR

Any food can cause reactions that affect the nervous system. One possible reason for these reactions is that histamine, the chemical that is released in allergic phenomena, can be released in the brain causing alterations in brain chemistry.

Brain allergies are often overlooked in the search for reasons for anti-social behavior. One cause of ADHD is a reaction to allergic foods or chemical additives found in children’s foods. Dr. Benjamin Feingold, MD pioneered the study of food allergies on children’s behavior. Depression can also be the result of food allergies, or allergies to chemicals in food or drinking water. For more information, read Food Intolerance.

ANXIETY AND PANIC ATTACKS

This is one of the easiest conditions to correct using nutritional balancing science. Common imbalances include low or high and biounavailable calcium and magnesium in the body, low zinc, high copper, high levels of toxic metals, and rarely other imbalances. Read Anxiety on this website for more information.

ALCOHOLISM AND DRUG ABUSE

Nutritional imbalances play a role to some degree with these conditions. Balancing body chemistry can particularly help some people to avoid a relapse by reducing cravings for alcohol, sweets and drugs. For more information read Alcoholism and Drug Abuse.

WHY ISN'T NUTRITION INCORPORATED MORE INTO MENTAL HEALTH CARE?

Most likely a combination of several factors. There is reticence on the part of medical professionals to change their mode of practice. Nutrition is not among the disciplines stressed in medical school. Also, there is much less money in nutritional supplements, and virtually none for dietary research. Hence, there is less impetus for large-scale studies and widespread publicity for the ideas discussed here.

However, there is plenty of scientific evidence to support everything discussed above. Several excellent references are listed at the end of this article. Many contain numerous medical references on the subject of diet, nutrition and behavior.

Take a deep breath.

An Earthling's Journey to Life: Day 125: Breath is the Spirit of LifeGrandma always said take a deep breath. Stop breath and so on. Well once again she was right.
I my self have started doing it on my 45 min. drive in to work and on the way home.
For centuries, the art of breathing has been one of a myriad of tools employed by Yoga masters in order to calm the body and mind, in preparation for meditation, contemplation or simply to remain in control of one's emotions. Long utilized as a spiritual practice, a recent study has now brought the use of breathing as a way to control emotions into the realm of neuroscience. The results are promising and could mean a reduction in the administration of drugs as a form of anxiety, depression and anger management.

The study and its findings

Carried out at the Universite de Louvain by Dr. Pierre Philippot, the research study focused on two groups with the aim of investigating whether breathing can generate and regulate emotions and their intensity.

While we are already aware that breathing has a calming effect on us, in situations such as when we are under pressure or in the midst of panic, it isn't clear whether breathing actually generates emotions. This study helped immensely in that regard since it showed that each emotion actually has a specific breathing pattern associated with it.

For example:

Panic - Short, fast, shallow breaths
Anger - Long forced breaths
Calmness - Slow steady breaths
Happiness - Long inhalations, long exhalations

The first group was asked to generate each of the above emotions by modifying their breathing pattern and recalling a memory that helps in eliciting that emotion.

Each participant from group one also filled out a questionnaire, citing breathing patterns alongside each emotion according to their own experience. This questionnaire proved to be eye-opening as the answers garnered were in accordance with each other right across the board, for the most part. That is, each participant used a similar breathing pattern to generate happiness (and this holds true also for the other emotions).

The second group was asked to breathe using the breathing patterns from the first study group. Not long after, they began to experience the specific emotion attached to that particular breathing pattern made clear in the first part of the test.

The results suggest - just as Yoga masters and instructors have known for centuries, breathing really does affect one's emotional state.

What does this mean for you?

Quite simply, it means that there is now another tried and tested method for controlling our emotional state, which previously was believed so difficult. Once this information is passed on to the general public, no longer just in possession of Yoga practitioners, we might see a slight improvement in the general mental health of the population.

Sufferers of anxiety, depression, anger etc. will be able to learn how to control their emotions through breathing and this could mean a drop in the dependence upon drugs as a treatment. For many, drugs are not working, and are in fact making things worse.

Granted, just as with anything that requires concentration, such as exercise or meditation, breathing to control one's emotions undoubtedly requires discipline and diligence. Nevertheless, these results offer a much needed alternative to the limited techniques already in use for those in emotional turmoil and could one day be employed by therapists and counselors.

Take a deep breath because there is something you need to know. Ongoing research has shown that proper breathing can be an intelligent way to respond to chronic fatigue, high blood pressure, stress and other ailments - no health club membership required.

Each one of us takes about 20 000 breaths a day. Still, the influence of breathing on human health goes largely unnoticed. Only a few people realize that shallow breathing is linked to stress, sub-par mental performance, fatigue and increased risk of heart disease. However, breathe correctly and you will be able to release tension and improve your physical and mental wellness.

The importance of deep breathing

Deep breathing raises levels of oxygen in our blood and presents a wide range of benefits for our health. "If I had to limit my advice on healthier living to just one tip, it would be simply to learn how to breathe correctly", says internationally acclaimed alternative health icon Dr. Andrew Weil. Take a look and discover how deep breathing can transform your health:

  • Lowers blood pressure

  • Relieves emotional issues, including stress and tension

  • Improves the quality of sleep

  • Raises our energy levels

  • Helps break down salt

  • Improves circulation

  • Helps to promote weight loss

  • Improves athletic performance

Pay attention to the way you breathe - it may be one of the most important things you can do for your health. A study led by Arthur Craig, PhD at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center even suggests that a controlled breathing at a slowed rate can significantly reduce feelings of pain.

Are you a shallow breather? Try this simple exercise

You can reverse your body's natural reaction to stressful situations by practicing deep breathing exercises. Here is a simple, yet effective exercise you can try right away to embrace the wisdom of taking a deep breath:

  • Allow yourself to be free of distractions for at least ten minutes

  • Inhale for 6 seconds

  • Hold your breath for a count of 18

  • Exhale for 12 seconds

  • Repeat at least 10 times - twice a day

  • Watch how you feel

When you breathe slowly and consciously, your body reacts in many positive ways. Without oxygen there is no life. It is a key element of life force and an invaluable aid to peak performance, life extension and perfect health. Are you getting enough of it?

struggling with losing weight

If you are still struggling with losing weight while craving the enjoyment of great tasting foods, you may be pleasantly surprised and encouraged by this article.

There are foods you can enjoy that are nutrient dense, low in calories, and more importantly are starch resistant. Starch resistant foods and baking flours are the latest dietary craze, which may be the solution to end other crash diet crazes.

Even more importantly, starch resistant foods and flours have been found to improve colon or bowel health, curb cancer, and prevent adult onset diabetes 2.
Essentially, starch resistance carbohydrate foods are not fully digested and turned to sugar, which is stored as fat if it isn't metabolized for energy. Thus starch resistant foods are perfect for weight loss. Blood sugar spiking is also eliminated to protect against insulin resistance and diabetes.

Starch resistant foods have insoluble and soluble fiber properties. Insoluble fiber absorbs fluids and helps create well formed bowel movements in the colon. Soluble fibers are digested slowly and are more viscous, helping one feel full without craving more food.

The fibrous starch in starch resistant food collects in the large intestine or colon to support probiotic bacteria colonization. Researchers at the University of Colorado - Denver have discovered this process helps eliminate colon polyps to prevent colon cancer while also protecting against infection and inflammation.

Starch resistant food examples

Not quite ripe or slightly green bananas are in the starch resistant mode at this stage. There is even a green banana flour on the market that's getting rave reviews.

It can be mixed with regular flour to maintain the taste and consistency one normally experiences with baked goods while receiving the benefits of starch resistance. Other flours labeled starch resistant are entering the market also.

Cold pasta, as in pasta salad, and cold potatoes, as in potato salad, also offer the best all possible worlds: Carb consumption satisfaction with starch resistance.

Whole grain rice, yams and sweet potatoes can be cooked and still maintain their starch resistance. Legumes and peas also offer starch resistance. Avoid canned beans.

Use less expensive nutrient rich organic dry bulk beans from bins. To prepare, soak overnight in purified water, drain, then use different purified water to cook them.

Different types of beans require different amounts of soaking and cooking. Black or turtle beans require twice as much soaking and cooking as garbanzo beans or chick peas.

They both go well with rice topped with chopped onion and cilantro. Add pure cold-pressed olive oil, a squeeze of lemon or lime, and a pinch of sea salt on it (http://www.naturalnews.com/032396_beans_rice.html).

Beans can also be eaten cold after cooking. Mix and match varieties to make bean salads.

Other foods recommended for weight loss and fiber intake

Here's one that makes most people under the spell of "fat is bad dogma" shudder - avocado. Avocado is one of the healthiest foods around.

It contains good fats that are needed to maintain cell walls, replace and protect brain cells and nerves, and convert sunshine into vitamin D (http://www.naturalnews.com/029864_avocados_health.html).

Greens are great high density, low calorie foods. Most dieters avoid them and instead suck up low fat yogurts with lots of sugar and/or HFCS while they eat soy tofu, which is unhealthy unless fermented, or carefully strip fats from meats.

It should be the other way around with eating many more greens, lettuces, kale, spinach, broccoli, and others. Lightly steamed or raw greens offer the most nutrients, enzymes, and fibers.

smoke or not marijuana What would obama do?

DEA raids Washington medical marijuana clinicsLast
November, shortly after voters in Colorado and Washington State approved measures legalizing marijuana use in their states, President Barack Obama - who has admitted to smoking pot in the past - signaled that the federal government did not have much interest in pursuing the matter, despite the fact that recreational pot use remains a federal crime.

"We've got bigger fish to fry," Obama famously said in an interview with ABC News' Barbara Walters. "It would not make sense for us to see a top priority as going after recreational users in states that have determined that it's legal."

By now, scores of Americans know that Obama is a master of misdirection and subterfuge, both political techniques he learned, and learned well, from his very own "community organization" guru, Saul Alinsky. So it should be no surprise to learn that, despite what Obama said, his Drug Enforcement Administration is, in fact, busting businesses that dispense dope.

So much for 'bigger fish to fry'

According to NBC News, DEA agents raided a number of medical marijuana dispensaries in late July in Washington State. Per the report:

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Seattle office confirmed in a brief statement that "several search warrants were executed today involving marijuana storefronts" in the Puget Sound region around Seattle. It gave no further details, and the number of raids remained unclear ...

Subsequent reports said the DEA only raided four shops, and that the raids "were a continuation of an investigation that became public in 2011 when the DEA raided several pot dispensaries," Seattle's KING 5 TV station reported. "The raids were not the federal government making a statement about pot use in Washington state, the source says."

One of the dispensaries involved in the new raids was the Bayside Collective in Olympia, the capital of Washington, "where seven government vehicles converged" the morning of July 24, NBC News reported.

DEA agents with guns drawn took business records and some $2,500 worth of marijuana that was intended not for recreational use but for distribution to cancer patients, according to witness Casey Lee, who works at the clinic.

"It's humiliating," Lee said of the raid and the agents. "They don't get to see the cancer patients."

Because marijuana remains illegal under federal law, Lee said one of the DEA agents told him, "Things are going to be hell for you."

"One of the DEA agents said: 'This is your second raid and your third robbery. Why do you keep doing this?'" Lee told KING 5.

"I just told him it's because we just enjoy helping people, and he told us that he wasn't expecting that answer," said Lee.

More cost than benefit

According to KING 5, local criminal defense attorney Douglas Hiatt said that he had been made aware of the raids.

"What we heard from a DEA agent that talked to one of my clients that was at the scene was that there was 18 targets or 18 places that they were going to hit," said Hiatt, before the agency announced that only four dispensaries had been raided.

"Marijuana is illegal 24 hours a day, 7 days a week under federal law. There is no defense, there is no justification," he continued.

Others, however, remembered what the president said.

"You can't tell me there isn't bigger fish to fry, especially now that recreational marijuana is legal," Seattle Cross dispensary patient Leif O'Leary told KING 5. "It is just to me inconceivable that this is still happening."

It should be noted that, right or wrong, a recent Pew Research Center poll found that 52 percent of Americans support legalization of marijuana, while nearly three-fourths (72 percent) believe efforts to enforce pot laws bring more cost than benefit.

beer ** 'hangover-free' alcohol

I don't drink alcohol any more,,,,,, but I know many who do. Found this you may want to know.

Scientists add electrolytes to beer in effort to create 'hangover-free' alcohol

by Jonathan Benson
If you choose to imbibe a few beers or cocktails every now and then to take the edge off, staying hydrated and avoiding the ever-dreaded hangover the next day is often as simple as just following up with plenty of clean water and electrolyte-rich coconut water. Or you may eventually be able to try a new electrolyte-enhanced beer currently being developed by researchers from Australia who claim to have possibly found the holy grail for alcohol-induced dehydration.

After tinkering around with potential new ways to make beer more hydrating, a team of scientists from the Griffith University Health Institute found that simply adding electrolytes to beer may be the simplest and most effective method. That, and reducing the overall alcohol content of beer, according to reports, has been shown in tests to help reduce the incidence of hangovers and improve the hydrating potential of beer.

For their study, researchers modified two commercially-available beers, one labeled as regular and the other labeled as "light," by supplementing them with electrolyte compounds, which are found both naturally in foods like coconut water and synthetically in sports drinks like Gatorade. The team gave these electrolyte-enhanced beers to a group of volunteers who have just worked out at the health club, and evaluated fluid recovery and hydration levels compared to individuals given beer without electrolytes.

As expected, those who drank the electrolyte-enhanced beer fared the best in terms of overall re-hydration and recovery, while the regular beer drinkers experienced typical alcohol-induced dehydration. Comparatively, the group that experienced the most benefits was the one that drank the electrolyte-enhanced light beer, presumably due to the fact that it generally contains less alcohol content than regular beer.

"We basically manipulated the electrolyte levels of two commercial beers, one regular strength and one light beer, and gave it to research subjects who'd just lost a significant amount of sweat by exercising," says Ben Desbrow, an associate professor at Griffith and one of the lead authors of the study. "We then used several measures to monitor the participants' fluid recovery to the different beers."

"Of the four different beers the subjects consumed, our augmented light beer was by far the most well retained by the body, meaning it was the most effective at re-hydrating the subjects," he adds.

Creating 'healthier' alcohol more effective than telling people not to drink, say experts

Published in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism, the findings are especially promising for public health, as the team's electrolyte-enhanced beers reportedly taste the same as their regular counterparts. The Griffith team is also hopeful that the findings will lead to substantial improvements in the ways people choose to drink, as simply telling people not to drink in order to avoid health effects is typically ineffective.

"If you're going to live in the real world, you can either spend your time telling people what they shouldn't do, or you can work on ways of reducing the danger of some of these socialized activities," Desbrow is quoted as saying by numerous media reports about the implications of the study.

Others, however, dispute the study's findings, claiming that alcohol's metabolism byproducts, and not alcohol itself, are responsible for causing hangover headaches. Michael Oshinsky, Director of preclinical research at the Jefferson Headache Center in Pennsylvania, for instance, says acetate, which is enzymatically broken down from acetaldehyde within the body, is the real culprit responsible for hangovers.

"If you block the enzyme that breaks down acetaldehyde to acetate, you don't get a headache," Oshinsky is quoted as saying by ABC News.

Thyroid Iodine deficiency

Here is some info. on Iodine deficiency. And Some info. I gathered.
Iodine deficiency is thought to be the most common cause of hypothyroidism and the one true cause of goiters. Once researchers realized this many decades ago, health authorities around the world began adding iodine to table salt. But interestingly allopathic medical science is now saying that in countries where iodine has been added to highly processed table salt, the rates of autoimmune thyroid disease have risen.

Absurdities in Medical Science

Though there are several studies from around the world that support this conclusion, one of the principle studies was published in the European Journal of Endocrinology asserting this without any attention to or control of the toxicity of the salt itself, selenium status of the studies' participants, or the danger that water fluoridation potentiates for the thyroid. These factors and others are involved in thyroid and autoimmune diseases; mercury is an especially dangerous thyroid poison in this regard. So is bromide and they are putting it more than ever in bread.

Iodine deficiency we get is partly a result of toxicity from fluoride and bromine. Bread has ten times more bromine in it than it used to and the sources of fluorine are nearly ubiquitous today. So who does not need iodine? I find that nearly everyone needs more than they are getting.
- Dr. Garry F. Gordon

Contamination from chemicals and heavy metals has cumulative effects such as weakening the immune system. When heavy metals are found on the receptor sites of the thyroid they literally invite the immune system to strike out against thyroid cells. The immune system produces thyroid antibodies in seek-out-and-destroy missions against these foreign substances. Depending on the specific subtype, thyroid antibodies can destroy thyroid cells, cause thyroid inflammation, or cause thyroid cells to produce excess thyroid hormone.

Selenium is necessary for the conversion of T4 to T3. (Incomplete conversion results in high levels of reverse T3, an inactive hormone.) Selenium has also been shown to reduce autoimmunity against the thyroid (i.e. to treat the underlying cause of Hashimoto's thyroid disease.

When we add the total ignoring of magnesium deficiency as yet another uncontrolled factor we quickly realize how careful we need to be about interpreting scientific medical conclusions. Add the fact that the thyroid is affected by widespread mercury contamination and we can see how distorted medical studies can become in their lust to study one factor at a time while remaining blind to other crucial issues. God knows I hate the dentist but filling are for the most part Mercury. If you have the money get them out.

Studies have documented that mercury causes hypothyroidism, damage of thyroid RNA, autoimmune thyroiditis, and impairment of conversion of thyroid T4 hormone to the active T3 form. These studies along with clinical experience indicate that exposure to mercury and/or toxic metals appears to be the most common cause of hypothyroidism and the majority of patients treated with metal detoxification recover or significantly improve.

Manmade sources of mercury: dental amalgams, thimerosal in vaccines, mining of silver, coal-fired electrical plants, municipal incinerators, crematoriums, curing of plastics, fireworks (pharoah's serpents and bengal green lights), anatomical specimen preservatives, fungicides and pesticides (golf courses), laboratory tests in slide preparations and reagents, certain drugs, thermometers, fluorescent lights, certain button-sized batteries.

As far back as the early 1920s, Goldemberg showed that fluoride was displacing iodine, rendering the community hypothyroid from iodine deficiency. The thyroid-stimulating hormone output from the pituitary gland is inhibited by fluoride, thus reducing output of thyroid hormones. Fluoride competes for the receptor sites on the thyroid gland and so do mercury and bromide. This contamination might also invite an autoimmune response.

Byron Richards writes, "Adequate iodine is also needed to block various compounds from binding to and accumulating in the thyroid gland (fluoride, perchlorate, goitrogens in food). Problems with chemicals affecting the thyroid gland have been known about for decades. A recent Russian study showed that general environmental pollution (of which the U.S. has plenty in every metropolitan area) significantly aggravates iodine lack (meaning pollution displaces iodine in the human body)."

European doctors used fluoride as a thyroid-suppressing medication for patients with HYPER-thyroidism (over-active thyroid). Fluoride was utilized because it was found to be effective at reducing the activity of the thyroid gland - even at doses as low as 2 mg/day.

Below we will examine a Brazilian scientific study that is already being used by doctors as a reason to fly as far away from iodine supplementation as possible. If certain people had their way they would now take all iodine out of salt, which is the only way the masses of humanity have access to supplemental iodine even if the dosages provided are far too low to protect the thyroid from the onslaught of chemical and heavy metal contamination. This of course would be very dangerous to future generations of children whose parents and environment are already extremely iodine deficient (except along coastal areas). It is just because of the vast contamination affecting everyone that the thyroid needs to be protected with increased levels of iodine.

During this past decade iodine concentrations in table salt have been slightly modified to be within the new official limits: 20-60 mg/kg salt. Previously these concentrations were in the 40-100 mg/kg range though there have been reports that salt advertised as containing iodine actually had none.

In the study, in 45.6% of the 1085 randomly selected participants receiving iodine in their salt, iodine excretion was excessive. The prevalence of chronic autoimmune thyroiditis (CAT) (including atrophic thyroiditis) was 16.9% (183/1085); women were more affected than men (21.5% vs 9.1% respectively, P=0.02). Hypothyroidism was detected in 8.0% (87/1085) of the population with CAT. Hyperthyroidism was diagnosed in 3.3% of the individuals (36/1085), and goiter was identified in 3.1% (34/1085).

People thought to have certain immune system genes are seen to be more susceptible to developing thyroid disorders when they're exposed to certain environmental triggers. Up to 20 percent of the population has these genes although only about four percent of the population develops autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD).

Researchers concluded that five years of excessive iodine intake by the Brazilian population may have increased the prevalence of CAT and hypothyroidism in subjects genetically predisposed to thyroid autoimmune diseases. With this conclusion, easily-duped doctors have come out against iodine supplementation in any manner, shape, or form for men, women and children of all dispositions.

Please pay careful attention anytime the medical community throws out these key words genetically predisposed because it often demonstrates an area of medicine they know very little about. Usually when doctors and medical scientists throw up genetic considerations, which they do all the time about autism, it's a red flag telling us they either don't know what they are talking about or they don't want to admit the real causes of a disease.

Iodine is a natural chelator of mercury, but most people consume nowhere near the amount needed for proper thyroid function and protection from mercury, fluoride and other dangerous halogens.

Let's examine the amount of iodine they are calling excessive. At 60 mg per kilogram we would have to calculate that easily about half of that would be lost to evaporation because table salt sitting out on the table, with iodine in it, would leach that iodine into the air, leaving, at best, 30 mg in a kilo. How long does it take for an average person to go through a kilo of salt? One could probably calculate approximately 180 days but let's cut that down to 90 days. At that rate we are talking about daily dosages below 1 mg per day of iodine supplementation, and perhaps as low as 500 micrograms (0.5 mg) or even much less. This compares with the average dietary intake by the Japanese population of 12.5 mg a day or the amount recommended by the "iodine doctors" of as much as 50 to 100 mg a day when they use it to treat cancer.

I have had Hashimoto's for 10 years and started taking nascent iodine about six weeks ago. I also have started using Transdermal Magnesium. For some time now I have been using barley greens, and vitamins B, D, C and omegas. Since taking the nascent iodine and magnesium I have improved. My muscle aches and pains and anxiety, etc. are so much better.

There are now doctors who feel that patients with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's and Graves') should not be taking iodine supplements. The real truth though is that this population should not be taking just any iodine supplement and they should never be taking iodine without appropriate selenium and magnesium supplementation as well. As is usual with most minerals, organic (safe) iodine is found in much higher amounts in organic foods. The form in which we take minerals is mission critical. Most tinctures of iodine are toxic and not appropriate for oral consumption.

Thyroid hormone is composed of three or four atoms of iodine and one molecule of the amino acid tyrosine.

There are three forms or chemical structures of iodine. There is iodine in its atomic I1 form and then molecular I2 and I3 forms. One of the principle reasons why I recommend Nascent Iodine for oral consumption and the use of Lugol's only for transdermal use is that the nascent iodine is in the I1 form plus it is much gentler to the taste buds and the stomach than the Lugol's when used orally. The I1 form is the form the body transforms most easily into thyroid hormone. There is a lot of conflicting information on the internet regarding the application of iodine in those with Hashimoto's. Dosage and form of iodine and a full supporting protocol as well as close medical supervision are especially important in these cases.

Most individuals with amalgam fillings or other exposures to mercury toxicity are not consuming natural chelators such as zinc, selenium, iodine, sulfur, and silica that would bind to the free mercury to help excrete it. Mercury (usually with a +2 charge) can grab the biological spaces that should be filled by another essential mineral. As a result, there may be plenty of the mineral found in the blood, urine, hair, etc., but due to the displacement at the active sites, mercury interferes with the activity of and depletes these essential minerals.

Doctors who are recoiling against decades of iodine supplementation and would rather leave the population exposed to worsening iodine deficiencies are playing a cruel game. Iodine is a mineral found in trace amounts throughout the body. Iodine is extremely important since the cells need it to regulate their metabolism. Without it, people are known to suffer from swollen glands in the throat, thyroid diseases, increased fluoride toxicity, decreased fertility rates, increased infant mortality rates, and (with severe deficiency) mental retardation. It has been theorized that iodine deficiency is a causal factor of ADHD in babies of iodine-deficient mothers.

A typical reading from an encyclopedia suggests that iodine deficiency slows all the systems of the body: The digestive system becomes sluggish, nails grow more slowly, skin and hair become dry and dull, tendon reflexes stiffen, sensitivity to cold increases, and the pulse slows. Iodine helps form who we are to such an extent that a deficiency can lead to a dulling of the personality, deterioration of attention and memory, and an increase in irritability due to fatigue and extreme apathy.

"The group we are most concerned about is pregnant women, who need more iodine anyway," says Dr. Robert Utiger, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. "There is the possibility of irreversible damage to the fetus if the mother is deficient," Utiger adds.

Yet many are still confused as to whether they should supplement if they have a low or underactive thyroid, or some type of thyroid condition such as hypothyroid, hyperthyroid, elevated thyroid autoantibodies, or Hashimoto's thyroiditis. No matter what the condition, a healthy thyroid system is crucial. A lack of iodine for the thyroid is a huge metabolic problem. How can anyone's body make energy if it is lacking the iodine to make thyroid hormone? Dr. David Brownstein, Dr. Jorge Flechas, Dr. Guy Abraham, Dr. Mark Starr, Dr. Garry Gordon and Dr Michael Schachter are among the doctors who all recommend substantially higher amounts of iodine than the RDA.

The roots of it

I must remind you and I. I managed a Pharmacy for 3 years this is one of the ways I learned so much. And of all people I know better, but when faced with pain even I can fall and be tricked into it. I've always said if you must, do it but then find the answer. And in the case of my thyroid, Doc said no cure,,,, no way off the med!!!! bull sh****
Iodine deficiency we get is partly a result of toxicity from fluoride and bromine. Bread has ten times more bromine in it than it used to and the sources of fluorine are nearly ubiquitous today. So who does not need iodine? I find that nearly everyone needs more than they are getting.
- Dr. Garry F. Gordon
Will I'll write more on this later.
So don't feel bad just get to the bottom of the problem. I let stress and being tired { because of the problem} wear me down. I have tossed most my med. and am back on the trail. So you see I don't write on things because I hear of them only. Most of the time I've lived it.

Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/033875_iodone_deficiency.html#ixzz2d4d7W0Xv.Pharmaceutical companies are not going out of business any time soon, in fact, they are growing at an alarming rate, and its all thanks to laziness and ignorance on the part of most Americans. The great, old USA appetite calls for three hot meals a day, usually consisting of meat, milk, some processed food, and of course, lots of sugar and salt, and well, that's not helping one bit. The repeat offense of immediate gratification has a toll, and for most Americans, that toll is very costly. The toll comes in the form of bad health, and it starts rearing its ugly head in the form of symptoms, and those are symptoms that Western "witch doctors" are very skilled at scribbling out prescriptions to mask and quell, all while sending the patients right back into the same non-organic food, the same non-organic drinks, and the same world of hurt.

Disease is just a fancy word for bad nutrition. There are over 900 diseases and disorders which originate from nutrient deficiency, but no allopathic doctor in the U.S. knows a darn thing about nutrition, so the choices given to the "sheople" (the "yes sir, no ma'am" - patients) is a multiple choice situation consisting of a few "recommended" synthetic drugs, with side effects that are usually far worse than whatever it is you go in for, if you can still remember.

Put it this way, to cover up symptoms of some deeper issue, some chronic health issue, is the ABSOLUTE WORSE THING YOU CAN DO. If you were driving your automobile down the road, and the oil or gas light comes on, do you cut the wire or take out the warning bulb in order to solve the problem? How dumb would that be? Hey, maybe I won't run out of oil or gas if the light never comes on. What if when the warning light came on, someone next to you told you that if you take the bulb out or cut the wire, "side effects" would be that your car engine burns up, or your transmission fails, or you get stranded somewhere in the middle of the night, would you still address that warning system by cutting the wire?

Let's get to the root of your problems

If you haven't seen this free YouTube documentary, you need to watch it as soon as possible. It's called "Dead Doctors Don't Lie" and rightfully so. You'll find out why Western medicine (pharmaceutical drugs) fails most that rely on it and conversely why nutrition prevents, heals, and maintains a healthy body. Dr. Joel Wallach did autopsies on over 17,000 animals and humans and he tells the cold hard facts Americans need to learn and learn now. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tH6N7tHGsi8)

Dr. Joel Wallach's research shows that the average age of death for allopathic doctors is 58 years young, while the average age of death for all other Americans is 75. Go figure. And for the Chinese, it's also around 75 years old, but Japan leads at 79, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (http://www.indexmundi.com/china/life_expectancy_at_birth.html). Now ask yourself, who knows what is best for you? Who knows about nutrition and the 900 nutrient deficient diseases? What medication(s) are you on now? Are you afraid of the side effects, or do you think they are normal? Do you know the underlying problems, or has the doctor failed to mention them? Let's not "fail to mention them."

Do you think you have fallen for the greatest scam ever, which is prescribing chemicals to treat problems which stem from consuming chemicals? Guess what? You may just be a victim. Have you heard the side effects on the commercials for Celebrex and Cymbalta? How about for the medicines for arthritis? Are you trying to quit smoking? Because if you try Chantix or Zyban, the side effects include feelings of suicide. (http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=21427)

Should internal bleeding and loss of vision even be LEGAL as a side effect of a medication? Aren't those END EFFECTS, as in your end, meaning your DEATH?

Hormones during full Moons

So-called "science-based skeptics" have long mocked the idea that human sleeping patterns are in any way affected by lunar cycles -- it all sounds just a little too wacky for their status quo level of cognitive ability. But a new study published in the journal Current Biology supports what the more progressive vein of scientific inquiry has been learning for years, mainly that the human body responds to the changing geophysical rhythms of lunar cycles as a result of its own internal circalunar clock.

To come to this conclusion, researchers from the University of Basel (UB) in Switzerland studied the sleeping patterns of 33 volunteers who were divided into two separate age groups. All the participants slept in a specially designed sleeping laboratory, and while they slept, scientists analyzed their brain patterns, eye movements, and hormone secretion levels during varying stages of the regular lunar cycle.

In the end, the research team observed that, overall, the participants experienced a lower quality of sleep during full moon cycles, even when the moon was not necessarily visible to them. On average, it also took the participants about five minutes longer to fall asleep during a full moon, not to mention the fact that these same participants slept about 20 minutes less on a given night around times when the moon was at its fullest phase compared to other times.

"The lunar cycle seems to influence human sleep, even when one does not 'see' the
moon and is not aware of the actual moon phase," says Christian Cajochen from UB's Psychiatric Hospital, who helped lead the study. "This is the first reliable evidence that a lunar rhythm can modulate sleep structure in humans when measured under the highly controlled conditions of a circadian laboratory study protocol without time cues."

The human body even produces fewer sleep hormones during full moons, according to data

Specifically, the amount of so-called delta wave activity during non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep -- delta wave activity is an indicator of deep and restful sleep -- was decreased by about 30 percent during full moon cycles. Both subjective and objective sleep quality was found to suffer during full moon cycles, which could help explain why some people experience seemingly random bouts of poor sleep.

"The only explanation we could come up with is that maybe there is a lunar clock in the brain, as found in other species like fish and other marine animals," adds Cajochen, as quoted by The New York Times (NYT), about the discovery. "But we don't have direct evidence for that."

However, included as part of the study is a graph that shows clear variances in sleep quality depending on the current lunar phase. REM sleep latency, deep slow wave sleep, sleep EEG-Delta activity, and even melatonin production all change during full moons, which suggests that humans do, indeed, possess a unique and inherent lunar sensitivity that modern science is only just now beginning to understand.
Full Moons, Crazy Behavior, and Parasites
The next full moon is coming and many parents have started noticing the "crazy behaviors" that seem to coincide with the full moons.  We have all heard and many have witnessed these changes in behaviors, but why do they occur?

One of the first things that I consider when a parent tells me that their child experiences these cyclical changes in behavior is parasites.  I am sure that like most of the parents I see in my office, you are making a face and thinking "gross, there is no way that my kid has parasites!"

What are parasites?

Parasites come in many forms, but are defined as any living thing that uses another living thing to survive.  Some parasites are very small and others are much larger, such as worms and flukes.  However, all parasites will cause some harm to the host, usually by consuming nutrients from the food that is eaten.  This may even eventually lead to malabsorption and/or malnutrition.

How do you get parasites?

Parasites are on the foods we eat, the soil we walk on, and even in the air we breath and are often from cross contamination via the fecal-oral route.  Coming into contact with parasites are largely unavoidable due to the fact that you may find them on things such as fruits and vegetables, meat, toys, grocery carts, sandboxes, pets, and even other people.  Basically anything that can be touched can transfer parasites.  Many children on the spectrum like to chew, lick, and mouth objects, making it even more likely for them to become infected.  Another factor that puts children on the spectrum at an increased risk for parasites is that many suffer from compromised immune systems that leaves them vulnerable and unable to fight the parasites.

What are symptoms of parasites?

Parasites often produce bizarre behavior and unfortunately, these symptoms are often overlooked and attributed to the child's diagnosis of autism rather than the true cause.  Some of the more common symptoms include:
  • fecal smearing
  • fecal retention (purposely withholding bowel movements)
  • rectal itching or digging
  • unexplained bizarre behavior
  • teeth grinding
  • nail biting
  • chewing on hands and fingers
  • aggression
  • playing with spit
  • licking objects
  • mouthing objects
  • pica (eating dirt or other non-food items)
  • falling out of bed at night
  • difficulty sleeping
  • bed wetting
  • urination/deification outside of toilet if toilet trained
  • prolonged straining to eliminate stool
  • chronic diarrhea that is unresponsive to treatments
  • obsessive and/or compulsive behaviors
  • hand-flapping
  • low body weight despite large appetite
  • any behaviors that worsen around the full-moon
Should you test for parasites?

Testing for parasites is not typically useful because tests do not detect all possible parasites and false negatives are very common.  If your child seems to be fitting the symptoms, it may be useful to perform a parasite cleanse.

How do you treat parasites?

Parasites are most active and laying their eggs during the full moon, so it is important to begin a parasite cleanse several days prior to the full moon. This will ensure that you are killing not only the adult parasites, but also the eggs and larvae.  There are many herbal preparations available for treating parasites, but be sure that the treatment includes herbs such as:
  • Black walnut
  • Wormwood (artemesia)
  • Cloves
  • Thyme
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Coconut oil
There may be a die-off reaction seen during the first week of treatment.  Die-off is a natural result of any type of cleansing and may vary in both presentation and severity.  Some of the more common die-off symptoms include:  headaches, body aches, fatigue, gas and bloating, and minor diarrhea.  These symptoms are typically mild and only last a few days.

It is also important to note that it is common for all family members and pets in a house to need a parasite cleanse to ensure that reinfection does not occur.  Also, most products suggest to wait 30 days before repeating the cleanse, so be sure to read the specific directions for the product that you decide to use.

Hopefully, now you see that there may be an actual physical reason for your child acting "crazy" during the full moon!
You decide what for you and what you believe. Do a little research and check out some older posts.

There are also parasites in all of us. Some more than others. The moon effect them also.

DHA shown to reduce proteins involved in liver fibrosis; good news for the obese

) A four year study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, supported by the National Institutes of Health and the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, and co-authored by graduate students Christopher M. Depner and Kenneth A. Philbrick of the Nutrition Graduate Program at OSU, have shown the effects of the Omega-3 fatty acid DHA to be of particular significance in reduction of scarring and damage to the liver.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, The American Liver Foundation estimates, affects "25 percent of the nation's population, and 75 percent of those who are obese."

Incidence of liver damage and fatty liver disease is on the rise in the U.S., and while diet and exercise can still reign supreme, these findings could create awareness of the types of foods that people may consider consuming more regularly.

Liver issues in obese individuals can sometimes turn fatal, leading to more advanced cases such as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), which can then lead to cirrhosis, potentially resulting in liver cancer. An estimated 30-40 percent of individuals with fatty liver disease progress to NASH.

Does DHA support other health functions?

DHA, or docosahexaenoic acid is "a building block of the brain and is important for its development and function throughout life," said Edward B. Nelson, director of Martek BioSciences.

This important Omega-3 fatty acid has also been shown to support eye health and development through all stages of life.

DHA is used for treating Type II diabetes, coronary artery disease (CAD), dementia, and attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Food sources of DHA

Natural sources of DHA are found in the livers and meat of fish. Salmon is a common food people consume for "healthy fats." However, with evidence of mercury contamination in many fish species, people are considering alternatives. Some algae that the fish consume contain DHA, and vegan DHA supplements containing this algae exist on the market.

There has been evidence; however, that ALA, another fatty acid, can be converted to DHA inside the body. Great vegan sources of healthy fats include chia seeds, avocados, hemp and flax.

Young woman's ovaries destroyed by vaccine

A newly-published study has revealed that Merck & Co., the corporate mastermind behind the infamous Gardasil vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV), conveniently forgot to research the effects of this deadly vaccine on women's reproductive systems. And at least one young woman, in this case from Australia, bore the brunt of this inexcusable failure after discovering that her own ovaries had been completely destroyed as a result of getting the vaccine.

Published in the peer-reviewed British Medical Journal (BMJ), the harrowing recount of this young 16-year-old girl's experience should give pause to all parents currently being pressured by their doctors into having their young daughters jabbed with Gardasil. Robbed of her natural ability to experience full womanhood, this young woman experienced early menopause, in which her ovaries completely shut down before they were even able to fully develop.

Entitled Premature ovarian failure 3 years after menarche in a 16-year-old girl following human papillomavirus vaccination, this latest case study provides solid evidence that Gardasil is, at the very least, a serious threat to normal ovarian function. Not only was the damaged girl examined and verified to have had healthy ovaries prior to the shots, but there were no other identified factors besides Gardasil that could have possibly been involved in her sudden ill-fate.

Worse is the fact that information later obtained from the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for the case -- TGA is Australia's equivalent of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the U.S. -- revealed that Merck had never even conducted safety testing on
Gardasil in relation to its effects on women's ovaries. According to the report, Merck had only tested Gardasil's effects on male testes.

"Although the TGA's Australian Public Assessment Report for Human Papillomavirus Quadrivalent Vaccine, February 2011, does report on the histology of vaccinated rat testes and epididymides, no histological report has been available for vaccinated rat
ovaries," explains the report. "[A] histological report of the ovaries of vaccinated rats remained unavailable beyond a numbering of the corpora lutea present at postweaning euthanasia following the first litter."

In other words,
Merck either intentionally or accidentally -- either option is completely unacceptable, by the way -- failed to check whether or not Gardasil has the potential to damage young women's reproductive systems, even though young women have always been the primary target market for the vaccine
. Only recently have young boys been pulled into the Gardasil fray, despite the fact that the long-term side effects of the vaccine in males is still largely unknown.

HO LORD, THE PARENT'S MUST BE..UPSET
I REFUSED THAT THING I JUST COULDN'T EVEN ....

Gardasil loaded with additives known to damage female reproduction

As reported by investigative journalist Heidi Stevenson, there are at least two additive ingredients in Gardasil that may be responsible for damaging women's ovaries. These ingredients are polysorbate 80, an emulsifying preservative, and L-histidine, a natural amino acid. Both of these ingredients are, of course, used in processed foods, which millions of people consume every day. But injecting them into the body has a much different biological effect than simply consuming them.

As it turns out, polysorbate 80, which also goes by the names Tween 80, Alkest, and Canarcel, has been shown in studies to damage female reproduction. Not only does this chemical additive greatly accelerate sexual maturation in women, but it also tends to reduce the weight and function of both the ovaries and the uterus. Similarly, L-histidine, when injected into muscle tissue, can cause the body to develop an autoimmune response to the natural substance, which can lead to many of the serious side effects being observed in many young girls who have been jabbed with Gardasil.

Be sure to read the following two reports by Heidi Stevenson to learn more about how Gardasil appears to damage female reproduction:

Addiction

I hope this helps you understand something's a little more knowledge is power.I'm will be posting more later. Sorry I'm have not done much here lately but my son is addicted to the computer so I had it shut off for a while. NOw back to this.

The most up-to-date research in the field of addiction suggests that all addiction is rooted in impaired brain chemistry, not lack of will power, character defects, personality disorders or spirituality.

In the brain, we have chemicals called neurotransmitters that regulate how we think, feel and behave. The neurotransmitters involved most frequently with an addiction of any kind include serotonin, dopamine, GABA, endorphins, and norepinephrine, but acetylcholine and anandamide may also be involved in some addictions.

Serotonin functions like a natural anti-depressant. Dopamine provides feelings of pleasure, motivation and focus, while GABA is similar to a natural sedative providing us with relaxation. Endorphins are like natural opiates that provide relief for emotional and physical pain and each of these provide feelings of well-being and inner peace. Norepinephrine provides energy, but in excess it's actually toxic to the brain, while acetylcholine regulates the autonomic nervous system, cognitive functions and memory. Anandamide has a dampening effect on all other neurotransmitters.

In order for the brain to function adequately, neurotransmitters must be present in just the right amounts.

Not enough or too many can result in a wide variety of symptoms including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, irritability, violence, inability to concentrate or remember, insomnia, hyperactivity and cravings for mind-altering substances of all kinds.

Neurotransmitters may be out of balance prior to an addiction because of a poor diet, nutritional deficiencies, a genetic polymorphism, chronic stress, childhood abuse, environmental toxins, or brain trauma like a concussion, which becomes the driving force for an addiction to develop, or they may become imbalanced from the psychotropic substance itself.

All psychotropic substances artificially and temporarily alter neurotransmitters in the brain. Their effects are achieved in two different ways; they stimulate an intense supply of neurotransmitters to be released all at once and they mimic the effects of the natural neurotransmitter.

For example, sugar and alcohol increase dopamine, serotonin, GABA and endorphins, while heroin and other opioids mimic endorphins. Marijuana and chocolate affect anandamide. Nicotine affects acetylcholine. Cocaine and amphetamines increase dopamine, and Ativan or Valium mimic GABA. All addictive substances increase dopamine. Elevated levels of serotonin, dopamine, GABA, and endorphins generate profound euphoria, joy, relaxation, pleasure and happiness, alleviate physical and emotional pain and produce an exaggerated sense of well-being and inner peace, which is commonly referred to as "being high."

In End Your Addiction Now, Dr. Charles Gant explains that the brain responds to artificial stimulation of neurotransmitters by either reducing production of and responsiveness to the particular neurotransmitter or reducing the number of receptors for the neurotransmitter. This leaves the brain dependent upon the psychotropic substance to perform the duties of the impaired neurotransmitter.

The addict is not really craving the addictive substance; they are craving what the substance does for the brain.

The more depleted the neurotransmitters become, the more dependent one becomes on the addictive substance. Since the brain is no longer producing or responding appropriately to its own neurotransmitter, then cravings and withdrawal are experienced when the substance is not present in the system to carry out the functions of the depleted neurotransmitter.

Neurotransmitters can be restored to balance with the right diet, nutritional supplements, and other lifestyle changes. When this is achieved, then cravings for the addictive substance simply dissipate and maintaining sobriety is no longer a struggle.

Generic drug companies granted total immunity against all lawsuits from patients harmed by side effects

wow, wow that all I can say to this. You need to read this. I have tried to stay away from pharmaceutical drugs but with my hip and work I have had to uses them until I can do the stem cell thing. I figure at one time or another we are all in this place.

You may want to think twice before taking any more generic copies of brand-name pharmaceutical drugs, thanks to a recent Supreme Court ruling that effectively eliminates manufacturer liability in injury cases resulting from negative side effects. In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court recently overturned a $21 million judgment awarded to a New Hampshire woman injured by a generic pain drug, declaring in the process that generic drug manufacturers cannot be sued when the drugs they produce injure patients.

Since generic drugs are mere replicas of brand-name drugs that, at one time, were approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as "safe," generic drug manufacturers are exempt from being held liable in the event of injuries caused by harmful side effects. This is the opinion of the majority of the Supreme Court anyway, which has now made it that much harder for members of the public to seek remedy for injuries caused by pharmaceutical drugs.

According to Reuters, the ruling affects lawsuits filed under state law, which allegedly conflict with federal regulatory guidelines as they pertain to safety approval for brand-name drugs. When it comes to federal versus state law, federal always tends to win these days, which means the big boys in the drug industry basically get to call all the shots. And if you are injured by a drug, in this case a generic drug, well then tough luck for you.

"The court has left a seriously injured consumer without any remedy," wrote Justice Sonia Sotomayor, along with Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, and Elena Kagan, in a dissent to the ruling.

It all started when Karen L. Bartlett of New Hampshire was prescribed a generic version of Merck & Co.'s anti-inflammatory drug Clinoril by her doctor for shoulder pain. Bartlett quickly developed a condition known as toxic epidermal necrolysis, which left her with burn-like lesions on two-thirds of her body. Bartlett had to be put into a medically-induced coma and be fed out of a tube for over a year while she underwent dozens of eye surgeries.

With the help of her lawyer, Bartlett filed a lawsuit against Mutual Pharmaceutical, the manufacturer of sulindac, the generic version of Clinoril that led to her injuries. The Supreme Court issued a ruling against Bartlett, which was eventually overturned by a Boston-based appeals court, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). But the Supreme Court later overturned the ruling of the appeals court, claiming that federal law prohibits such lawsuits.

Shielding drug companies from liability will only further erode public confidence in Big Pharma

On the surface, the Supreme Court's ruling on this matter appears as though it is just another win for Big Pharma, which as we all know takes every opportunity to leverage control over the federal regulatory scheme for drugs. But in the long run, the decision will end up hurting the drug industry, as the general public will put even less faith in the safety and integrity of drugs.

"Today's court decision provides a disincentive for generic makers of drugs to monitor the safety of their products and to make sure that they have a surveillance system in place to detect adverse events that pose a threat to patients," says Michael Carome, Director of the Public Citizen's Health Research Group, as quoted by Reuters.

In other words, why perform routine and costly safety tests when there are no longer any consequences if patients are harmed by tainted drugs? Official FDA approval of the "parent" drugs is apparently all that is now needed to shield the generic drug industry from future liability for injuries, which means patients are basically being forced to take drugs at their own risk.
