Ginger is classified as a herb which have been widely used as traditional medicine or spice in many cultures throughout the world. Ginger is often referred to as a root, but it is actually an underground stem (called rhizome).
The rhizome is branched with small "limbs". It has brown skin that is thin if harvested when young, or becomes thick when harvested when it matures. The color of the flesh varies from pale yellow to white or pink, or even red, depending on the variety.
Young ginger is fragrant, pungent, fleshy and juicy with a mild spicy taste. Whereas mature ginger is fibrous and almost dry and tends to be spicier than its young counterpart.

Ginger is known to have more than twelve types of anti-oxidants, making it useful for treatment of many disorders. Like other spices, it has aphrodisiac properties and is used widely for medicinal purposes.
This herb contains essential oils, protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin C, choline, folic acid, inositol, manganese, panthotenic acid, silicon, and a small amount of vitamin B3.

Health Benefits
The medicinal uses of ginger is almost endless. If you can stomach the spiciness, it does wonders in treating many disorders.
Anticoagulant: Add ginger in most of your cooking or add a teaspoonful of fresh ginger juice in your beverages to enjoy the anticoagulant properties of ginger. It helps make blood platelets less sticky which in turn reduces your risk of atherosclerosis.
Aphrodisiac effect: A natural aphrodisiac, this might be the better substitute to viagra! Drink hot ginger tea (by mixing ginger juice, hot water and raw honey) after a not-too-heavy meal and see it work!
Cold: Cut up a small piece of ginger and boil it with a small cup of pure drinking water. Add some green tea leaves if you wish. Strain and drink when hot. Effective if you also have fever resulting from the cold. You may also drink this concoction if you feel a cold coming.
Cough: Drink ginger juice with raw honey three to four times a day for a bad throat. It is soothing and helps clear up phlegm.
Digestive disorder: Mix a teaspoonful of fresh ginger juice with one teaspoonful each of fresh lime juice and fresh mint juice with some honey to taste in a glass of water. Drink to relieve heartburn, indigestion, nausea and vomiting. Especially helpful after a big meaty meal.
Fatigue: Slice a piece of ginger into disks and boil it with a big glass of water. Add a piece of cinnamon bark, bring to boil and then cover it for about half an hour till it turns to golden color. Drink it to relieve fatigue when recovering from fever. It also relieves muscle pain and soreness.
Flatulence/wind: Pound a piece of fresh ginger and boil with a cup of water and add a little honey to taste. Drink it twice a day to let off the wind trapped in the intestinal tract.
Impotency: Believe it or not! Mix a teaspoonful of fresh ginger juice to a half-boiled egg and a teaspoonful of honey. Take this concoction on an empty stomach, every night for a month. It helps to counter impotency, premature ejaculation and increase sperm count. (Not proven but worth trying!)
Inflammations: The anti-inflammatory (gingerols) and anti-oxidant properties in ginger help relieve various inflammatory disorders like gout, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. It provides substantial relief in pain caused by inflammation and help decrease swelling and morning stiffness.
Menstruation disorders: Pound a piece of fresh ginger and boil with a cup of water and add a little honey to taste. Drink it hot two or three times a day for a month. The pain-relieving and anti-cramping compounds in ginger effectively help relieve painful menstruation cramps (dysmenorrhoea). In the absence of menstruation in women in the reproductive age (amenorrhoea), this concoction can also help induce menstruation.
Morning sickness: A teaspoonful of fresh ginger juice with some honey will also help alleviate morning sickness, sea or motion sickness, dizziness and even nausea caused by chemotherapy or anesthesia.
Pain killer: Ginger juice makes an excellent pain killer, even when applied externally. In headache, apply ginger juice to the forehead. With toothache, apply it to the external area either on the cheek or jaw area.

When mixing honey in any of your juices, always use
organic or raw honey. One way to test that your bottle of
honey is raw ... put it into the refrigerator overnight.

Consumption Tips
Use a teaspoon to scrape off the ginger skin. When adding ginger in cooking, add at the beginning of cooking for a milder taste, or near the end for a much more pungent taste.
Try to add a teaspoonful of fresh ginger juice in your vegetable or fruit juices whenever possible. It blends very well with pineapple, carrot and apple juices.

Warning! Do not give ginger juice to young children, or honey to infants!
Fresh ginger juice is very potent as it contains high levels of active enzymes and substances. Only a teaspoonful is needed to feel its efficacy in treating disorders.
Ginger juice is spicy, so go slow with it if you are not used to its spiciness. The side effects of taking ginger juice could be flatulence and uncontrollable burping. This doesn't mean that the juice causes gas, but rather that the consumption causes the body to release trapped gas in your intestinal tract.
More does not mean better. Ginger does contain moderate amounts of oxalate. Individuals with a history of oxalate-containing kidney stones should avoid over-consuming ginger or its juice.

Lime and lemon add refreshing zest to almost any drink which cleanse and enhance immune properties of your already healthy glass of juice.
Lime: The lime is a small citrus fruit, like a small orange, with skin and flesh that are green in color. It is round with a diameter of about one to two inches. Most limes are sourish and have an acidic taste, but when consumed is really alkaline.
Lemon: The lemon is a small, oval fruit which is approximately two to three inches in diameter. Its outer peel is bright yellow in color and contains essential oil that is mainly limonene. Like the lime, lemon has a sourish and acidic taste, but when consumed has an alkaline effect in the stomach.

The nutritional benefits of limes do not differ very much from those of lemons. They are both excellent sources of vitamin C, B6, potassium, folic acid, flavonoids and the outstanding phytochemical, limonene.

Consumption Tips
The highest content of limonene is found in the white spongy inner parts of the lemon. When juicing a lemon, put in the whole fruit together with the peel, to get the most nutrition out of it (be sure to wash and brush the dirt off the skin before doing so.)
Make it a habit to put in cut limes/lemons (together with peel) into your drinking water or juices, to enjoy all its medicinal properties. With lemon juice in your drink, the absorbability of the other nutrients in your drink is increased up to five times!

Limes and lemons can be stored in the fridge for up to two weeks. Although they can actually keep longer, it will soon lose its flavor after too long.

Consumption Tips

Question am I helping anyone.? How to read a blog.

I get a little feed back from work. One thing people dont seem to understand how blogs work. Im there with ya still learning my self. But here the big thing it's like opening a book back wards. When you come in you either clicked on one thing on google and go strait there. Or you went to the main page. The main page is the last thing I wrote. So its the end of the book sort of speaking. So go to the bottom of the page see the words *old posts* click on that keep doing it til you get to the beginning. See the dates at the top. Watching them helps too. Now look at the posts from bottom to top because  is layered that way.Think of it this way i rip the pages out of a book and i say to you lay them down in order starting with one,1 then 2 then 3 then 4. look at it see page one is at the bottom.

When i put up a post it always goes to the top of the page if i continue on the same subject and put up another post it goes to the top and the other one moves down. I know it crazy but all these hit tec. people smarter than us did it. So i hope you understand now. Ilove you

Things That Can Go Wrong With the Endocrine System

Too much or too little of any hormone can be harmful to your body. For example, if the pituitary gland produces too much growth hormone, a teen may grow excessively tall. If it produces too little, a teen may be unusually short. Doctors can often treat problems with the endocrine system by controlling the production of hormones or replacing certain hormones with medication.
Some endocrine problems that affect teens include:
Adrenal insufficiency. This condition occurs when the adrenal glands don't produce enough corticosteroids. The symptoms of adrenal insufficiency may include weakness, fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, dehydration, and skin changes. Doctors treat adrenal insufficiency with medications to replace corticosteroid hormones.
Type 1 diabetes. When the pancreas fails to produce enough insulin, type 1 diabetes (pronounced: dy-uh-be-teez and previously known as juvenile diabetes) occurs. In kids and teens, type 1 diabetes is usually an autoimmune disorder, which means that some parts of the body's immune system attack and destroy the cells of the pancreas that produce insulin. To control their blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of developing diabetes problems, kids and teens with this condition need regular injections of insulin.
Type 2 diabetes. Unlike type 1 diabetes, in which the body can't produce normal amounts of insulin, in type 2 diabetes the body can't respond to insulin normally. Kids and teens with the condition tend to be overweight. Some kids and teens can control their blood sugar level with dietary changes, exercise, and oral medications, but many will need to take insulin injections like people with type 1 diabetes.
Growth hormone problems. Too much growth hormone in kids and teens who are still growing will make their bones and other body parts grow excessively. This rare condition (sometimes called gigantism) is usually caused by a pituitary tumor and can be treated by removing the tumor. The opposite can happen when a kid or teen has a pituitary glad that doesn't produce enough growth hormone. Doctors may treat these growth problems with medication.
Hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism (pronounced: hy-per-thy-roy-dih-zum) is a condition in which the levels of thyroid hormones in the blood are very high. In kids and teens, the condition is usually caused by Graves' disease, an immune system problem that causes the thyroid gland to become very active. Doctors may treat hyperthyroidism with medications, surgery, or radiation treatments.
Hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism (pronounced: hy-po-thy-roy-dih-zum) is a condition in which the levels of thyroid hormones in the blood are very low. Thyroid hormone deficiency slows body processes and may lead to fatigue, a slow heart rate, dry skin, weight gain, and constipation. Kids and teens with this condition may also grow more slowly and reach puberty at a later age. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an immune system problem that often causes problems with the thyroid and blocks the production of thyroid hormone. Doctors often treat this problem with medication.
Precocious puberty. If the pituitary glands release hormones that stimulate the gonads to produce sex hormones too early, some kids may begin to go through puberty at a very young age. This condition is called precocious puberty. Kids and teens who are affected by precocious puberty can be treated with medication that will help them develop at a normal rate

Once a hormone is secreted, it travels from the endocrine gland that produced it through the bloodstream to the cells designed to receive its message. These cells are called target cells. Along the way to the target cells, special proteins bind to some of the hormones. These proteins act as carriers that control the amount of hormone that is available for the cells to use.
The target cells have receptors that latch onto only specific hormones, and each hormone has its own receptor, so that each hormone will communicate only with specific target cells that have receptors for that hormone. When the hormone reaches its target cell, it locks onto the cell's specific receptors and these hormone-receptor combinations transmit chemical instructions to the inner workings of the cell.
When hormone levels reach a certain normal amount, the endocrine system helps the body to keep that level of hormone in the blood. For example, if the thyroid gland has secreted the right amount of thyroid hormones into the blood, the pituitary gland senses the normal levels of thyroid hormone in the bloodstream. Then the pituitary gland adjusts its release of thyrotropin, the hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones.
Another example of this process is parathyroid hormone. Parathyroid hormone increases the level of calcium in the blood. When the blood calcium level rises, the parathyroid glands sense the change and reduce their secretion of parathyroid hormone. This turnoff process is called a negative feedback system

Hypothalamus

The hypothalamus (pronounced: hi-po-tha-luh-mus), a collection of specialized cells that is located in the lower central part of the brain, is the main link between the endocrine and nervous systems. Nerve cells in the hypothalamus control the pituitary gland by producing chemicals that either stimulate or suppress hormone secretions from the pituitary.

Although it is no bigger than a pea, the pituitary (pronounced: puh-too-uh-ter-ee) gland, located at the base of the brain just beneath the hypothalamus, is considered the most important part of the endocrine system. It's often called the "master gland" because it makes hormones that control several other endocrine glands.
The production and secretion of pituitary hormones can be influenced by factors such as emotions and changes in the seasons. To accomplish this, the hypothalamus provides information sensed by the brain (such as environmental temperature, light exposure patterns, and feelings) to the pituitary.
The tiny pituitary is divided into two parts: the anterior lobe and the posterior lobe. The anterior lobe regulates the activity of the thyroid, adrenals, and reproductive glands. The anterior lobe produces hormones such as:
  • growth hormone, which stimulates the growth of bone and other body tissues and plays a role in the body's handling of nutrients and minerals
  • prolactin (pronounced: pro-lak-tin), which activates milk production in women who are breastfeeding
  • thyrotropin (pronounced: thy-ruh-tro-pin), which stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones
  • corticotropin (pronounced: kor-tih-ko-tro-pin), which stimulates the adrenal gland to produce certain hormones
The pituitary also secretes endorphins (pronounced: en-dor-fins), chemicals that act on the nervous system and reduce feelings of pain. In addition, the pituitary secretes hormones that signal the reproductive organs to make sex hormones. The pituitary gland also controls ovulation and the menstrual cycle in women.
The posterior lobe of the pituitary releases antidiuretic (pronounced: an-ty-dy-uh-reh-tik) hormone, which helps control the balance of water in the body. The posterior lobe also produces oxytocin (pronounced: ahk-see-toe-sin), which triggers the contractions of the uterus in a woman having a baby

What Is the Endocrine System?

Although we rarely think about the endocrine system, it influences almost every cell, organ, and function of our bodies. The endocrine system is instrumental in regulating mood, growth and development, tissue function, metabolism, and sexual function and reproductive processes.
In general, the endocrine system is in charge of body processes that happen slowly, such as cell growth. Faster processes like breathing and body movement are controlled by the nervous system. But even though the nervous system and endocrine system are separate systems, they often work together to help the body function properly.
The foundations of the endocrine system are the hormones and glands. As the body's chemical messengers, hormones (pronounced: hor-moanz) transfer information and instructions from one set of cells to another. Many different hormones move through the bloodstream, but each type of hormone is designed to affect only certain cells.
A gland is a group of cells that produces and secretes, or gives off, chemicals. A gland selects and removes materials from the blood, processes them, and secretes the finished chemical product for use somewhere in the body.
Some types of glands release their secretions in specific areas. For instance, exocrine (pronounced: ek-suh-krin) glands, such as the sweat and salivary glands, release secretions in the skin or inside the mouth. Endocrine glands, on the other hand, release more than 20 major hormones directly into the bloodstream where they can be transported to cells in other parts of the body.
The major glands that make up the human endocrine system include the:
  • hypothalamus
  • pituitary gland
  • thyroid
  • parathyroids
  • adrenal glands
  • pineal body
  • reproductive glands (which include the ovaries and testes

now remember it can be a few of each one of the things i'll be posting but not all of any of them. this gland has a lot of jobs and there is no tell what will come of it.

Pineal

The pineal (pronounced: pih-nee-ul) body, also called the pineal gland, is located in the middle of the brain. It secretes melatonin (pronounced: meh-luh-toe-nin), a hormone that may help regulate when you sleep at night and when you wake in the morning.

Reproductive Glands

The gonads are the main source of sex hormones. Most people don't realize it, but both guys and girls have gonads.
In guys the male gonads, or testes (pronounced: tes-teez), are located in the scrotum. They secrete hormones called androgens (pronounced: an-druh-junz), the most important of which is testosterone (pronounced: teh-stass-tuh-rone). These hormones tell a guy's body when it's time to make the changes associated with puberty, like penis and height growth, deepening voice, and growth in facial and pubic hair. Working with hormones from the pituitary gland, testosterone also tells a guy's body when it's time to produce sperm in the testes.
A girl's gonads, the ovaries (pronounced: oh-vuh-reez), are located in her pelvis. They produce eggs and secrete the female hormones estrogen (pronounced: es-truh-jen) and progesterone (pronounced: pro-jes-tuh-rone). Estrogen is involved when a girl begins to go through puberty. During puberty, a girl will experience breast growth, will begin to accumulate body fat around the hips and thighs, and will have a growth spurt. Estrogen and progesterone are also involved in the regulation of a girl's menstrual cycle. These hormones also play a role in pregnancy.
Although the endocrine glands are the body's main hormone producers, some other organs not in the endocrine system — such as the brain, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, and skin — also produce and release hormones.
The pancreas (pronounced: pan-kree-us) is also part of the body's hormone-secreting system, even though it is also associated with the digestive system because it produces and secretes digestive enzymes. The pancreas produces (in addition to others) two important hormones, insulin (pronounced: in-suh-lin) and glucagon (pronounced: gloo-kuh-gawn). They work together to maintain a steady level of glucose, or sugar, in the blood and to keep the body supplied with fuel to produce and maintain stores of energy

More fluoridation stuff

(NaturalNews) As a result of a year-long public outcry against water fluoridation in Austin, TX, the City Council held its second public meeting on the issue May 18, which attracted a standing-room only crowd.

Water fluoridation is a policy endorsed by numerous global health organizations, most notably the American Dental Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Controversy surrounding the practice has grown in recent years, however, as an increasing number of scientists and
health professionals argue that fluoride in drinking water causes many negative health effects, especially when looked at beyond dental health to the impact on the whole body. (http://impactnews.com/southwest-aus...)

Areas in the U.S. and Canada, most recently Calgary with 1.1 million
people, have already stopped fluoridation and U.S. cities such as Austin, Denver, CO and Boulder, CO, which are considering the fluoridation issue currently, may follow suit. This could cause a domino effect across North America and bring water fluoridation to a halt permanently, according to Fluoride Action Network Executive Director Dr. Paul Connett, who attended Austin's meeting.

Austin's Battle

"For a year, members of the community would keep coming to [the regular City Council meetings] to talk about it," said councilmember Randi Shade. "And we would just sit there because there was no format, no opportunity for us to do anything in that situation, so my point was to take it out of that and into a place we can actually deliberate, actually get the facts, start really getting education on what the implications would be for the larger community."

The Austin City Council Health and Human Services Subcommittee invited speakers both in favor of and against fluoridation of
drinking water to address specific questions from the City Council, and enable subcommittee members to determine if Austin needs to remove fluoride from the city's drinking water.

The fluoride debate

Dr. Delton Yarbrough, chair of the Council on Dental Economics, and Dr. Cecil George from the Texas Dental Association, who attended the meeting as the pro-fluoridation experts, were unable to respond to the onslaught of science from the opposing side with science that supported their pro-fluoridation views.

"[Dr. Connett] is clearly very articulate and excellent at presenting his case," Shade said. "But the issue that Dr. Connett raised is really, the United States government, who is responsible for setting health care policy for the nation, should be looking at this."

Connett, professor emeritus of chemistry at St. Lawrence University in New York and author of the book "The Case Against Fluoride: How Hazardous Waste Ended Up in Our Drinking Water and the Bad Science and Powerful Politics That Keep it There," flew into Austin for the day to argue against fluoridation. Arguably the leading authority on water fluoridation, Connett responded to every point made by his opponents by quoting peer-reviewed
studies, as did his associate, dentist Griffin Cole, who runs a fluoride-free practice in Austin.

"My two opponents today didn't cite one primary study indicating
safety -- not one study showing that fluoridation works," Connett said. "They really were not satisfactory answers. I think independent observers would find their case wanton."

Yarbrough and George instead relied heavily on endorsements of fluoride from public
health organizations and anecdotal evidence.

"More than 100 national and international health, science, service, and professional organizations recognize and endorse the
public health benefits of community water fluoridation," Yarbrough said. "Outside of that, as a practicing dentist in an area where the fluoride content of the water on the low end is .9 parts per million, I don't really need the benefit of science to know how effective fluoride in the water is. I see it every day at work when patients open their mouths."

Yarbrough later was dismissive of Connett's studies without backing up his claims and eschewed science in general in favor of an appeal to faith.

"They say these studies aren't validated. We say their studies aren't validated," Yarbrough said. "The studies their quoting out of China, Dr. Connett paid to have those studies translated and brought out of China and the modalities of those studies have been questioned, so it comes down to, who do you believe? Do you believe us? Do you believe them? Do you believe the gigglers in the audience?"

Laughter at the statement "Who do you believe?" was followed by a murmur of disapproval running through the audience of the mostly anti-fluoride Austin residents.

"It's not about who you believe. It's about the science," said one spectator.

Going against the
recommendations of the public health organizations puts the burden of proof on the opposing side, according to Shade.

"The question that Yarbrough provided was "Who do you believe?" Shade said. "I think the majority of the community would say, if you're not going to take the recommendations of the
CDC whose job it is to provide health care policy for municipalities across the country then you really have to be sure that we are going to do this."

The delicate fluoridation decision

Whether or not Austin will reverse fluoridation remains to be seen. There is no set date for future action. A change in Austin's fluoridation policy will require two councilmembers to put it on the agenda and four to vote it out.

"I'm just very nervous about making a change that goes against what the recommendations are for good public health policies from the people who are supposed to responsible for that in our nation," Shade said. "I mean it's risky."

But Lago Vista, a city less than 20 miles outside of Austin, reversed its decision to fluoridate in April 2011 without much fanfare, according to City Manager Bill Angelo.

"There were some concerns that it may not be as healthy as people once thought, and that people have other methods to get fluoride if they want it," Angelo said. "We also just realized that we didn't have the expertise to refute whether it was bad or good, so we felt the safest thing to do was remove it."

In the past few years, a handful of
cities surrounding Austin that started fluoridating in the 1980's have ceased fluoridating their water supplies, including Lago Vista, Alamo Heights, Elgin and Marble Falls.

Elgin's city council voted 5-3 to take fluoride out of the water, citing reasons, including opposing putting a

"There was an ominous sign at the end [of the Austin meeting] about how risky it was bucking officialdom," Connett said. "We have these big agencies like the CDC telling them this is the best thing since sliced bread. But I think that all people that are in positions of
power, have responsibility, and good leadership does require occasionally standing up against powerful forces when you have been convinced that those powerful forces are wrong."

And with the news that civil rights leaders speaking out against fluoride this past month have also been joined by Martin Luther King's daughter, Bernice, who went public with a denunciation of water fluoridation this week on Georgia's Praise 102.5 FM, Connett is hopeful about winning the fluoridation battle.

"What is happening in Atlanta is huge" Connett said. "We have known for a long time that blacks and Hispanics are more susceptible to dental fluorosis [which is the staining and pitting of teeth caused by ingesting fluoride]. But now that Andrew Young and Beatrice and other black leaders in Atlanta, right under the nose of the CDC, are coming out against this, I think the writing is on the wall."

Yarborough did not comment on the future of fluoridation from the pro-fluoride side and refused an interview with
NaturalNews.

FDA approved Big Pharma drugs without effectiveness data

(NaturalNews) Consumers constantly are told how complicated it is to get a new drug on the market. After all, researchers have to jump through all sorts of hoops to assure safety before new therapies are approved for the public, right?


It turns out they may be missing some of those hoops or not jumping through some of the most important ones.


In fact, huge red flags are being raised about how drugs are tested and approved in two new studies, including one just published in the May 4th issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).


A case in point: it turns out that only about half of the new prescription medications pushed onto the market over the last decade had the proper data together for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration - yet the FDA approved them anyhow.


The information in question is known specifically as comparative effectiveness data. And it is - or should be - a very big deal when it comes to deciding whether a drug should be approved and sold to the public.


According to the Institute of Medicine, comparative effectiveness data is defined as the "generation and synthesis of evidence that compares the benefits and harms of alternative methods to prevent, diagnose, treat, and monitor a clinical condition or to improve the delivery of care."


In other words, how does a new drug stack up against other treatments - is it more beneficial, safer, or does it have more potential dangers?


Comparative effectiveness information on drugs is especially important when doctors are making decisions about whether to prescribe a med, and to whom, soon after a drug is approved. That's because when Big Pharma medications first hit the market, physicians are relying on what drug companies and the FDA tell them about a medication. It takes a while for real life reports to come in as people report reactions, side effects (including deaths related to a drug) to become clearer.


Also, there are usually not data from large head-to-head trials comparing multiple treatments available when a medication first hits the marketplace. "Comparative effectiveness is taking on an increasingly important role in U.S. health care, yet little is known about the availability of comparative efficacy data for drugs at the time of their approval in the United States," according to background information in the new JAMA study.


It's not like there's not money to come up with this information, either. In 2009, Congress allocated $1.1 billion of taxpayers' money to comparative effectiveness research.


For the JAMA study, researcher Nikolas H. Goldberg and colleagues from Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, investigated the proportion of recently approved drugs that had comparative efficacy data available at the time they were authorized by the FDA to be sold in the U.S. They also examined the availability of this information over time and by therapeutic indication by checking out approval packages publicly available through the online database of drug products (dubbed new molecular entities, NMEs, for short) approved by FDA between 2000 and 2010.


The researchers found that only about half of 197 eligible approved NMEs between 2000 and 2010 had comparative efficacy data available at the time they were approved to be marketed.


Meanwhile, another recent study throws needed light on the limited data behind the safety and effectiveness of some Big Pharma drugs.


Research led jointly by Alexander Tsai of Harvard University and Nicholas Rosenlicht of the University of California San Francisco just published in PLoS Medicine zeroed in on the medication aripiprazole, which is prescribed treating bipolar disorder.


How was this powerful drug deemed safe and effective? Amazingly, the research team found the only evidence for the use of this medication came from a single trial. And, as they described in their paper, the scientists found key limitations of the drug study that clearly skewed the findings so they appear to support the use of aripiprazole for bipolar disorder.


Did this stop the FDA from approving the drug? No way. And neither did the fact that this single, poorly designed trial was sponsored by the drug manufacturer who produces aripiprazole.

some one asked what would i do if i had alot of money

 Id buy a big farm. Id have solar,wind power. Green houses for my own food. Then,, here it comes.. I love old people wise, cranky, perv-ed mouth, not the ones that are you touchy feely, you know real prevs, smart with stories, and one with callis on their hands from a hard life, one everyone left behind and just don't see the jewels they have. Tiny just right for them trailer with beautiful landscaped all around it and golf cart if they need one. A little community building where they can play cards,bingo and exercise or have dinner. I would have my own organic little store. And a store where i can sell my rugs and bags and soap and handmade items. Maybe a little coffee/deli where the old ones can hang out and people can come and enjoy clean,hand made fresh eating..If i had a lot of money a little town with no cars. And a natural Doc.That really get involved in the lives of the ones that lives here and live here. Maybe stream,ponds,benches,fish pond,small water falls and/or natural look water fountains, lot of walking and bike paths. Animals raised clean and happy but with perpose ofcorse. Lots ANd Lots of Money. A yoga center, and a peace and detox retreat ,,.for those who dont want to or can to it alone...Self abstaining is what you call it i guess. Boy it really is fun to dream and believe me I do I enjoy this town in my head on a reg. bases. That it i have some more detailed floor plans and everything in my head but i wont go there haha please join me in my dreams. hahaha Heaven on earth..Well you all can pray for that one but i believe its a little big. thats it ill stop now i could go on and on.

I often have an after thought when talking to people. When I'm telling people have i reversed I'm kidney problem. About the detox tea. I did it with the detox when i was passed the 3 days and in heeling mode. Also remember everyone is different. But most of all I didn't have anything to loose I had to get better. So when you are doing this please have your hyperkalemia tested. I went to the place that would do test for you.They do DNA testing Sexual D testing and what not. Now this was over 7 years ago i hope they are still there.Well i know their are not but i mean ones like them. Why I need to be right i needed to feel good about what i was doing. I was guarding my frame of mind and I didn't want the doc. to make me feel desperate or change my mind into some crazy thing that would not allow me to take care of my kids or make a pay check. That was me. REMEMBER you need to get your body in heeling mode as much and as often as you can. If you are not hurting your kidney more and your worried about hyperkalemia,blood presser or anything else get tested. Other wise you will not starve on a juice fast your getting more food to your body then you your self can eat.But anything pass three days is great. Relax take it easy. Now maybe the time to look into yoga not as exercise but as in mediation. Remember you are resetting your body your chemistry in your brain is changing you with feel like a different person. Like i said it like a new birth a second chance. It will feel strange but in a good way. You may get tired but your body is in heeling mode. Get some real good make me feel good people in your life. do some light volunteering read to kids at the liberty. walk some dogs at the pound something that you do for other that makes you feel good.Get your mind off the sad stuff laugh smile be someones angle.Bake some cakes and take the to a homeless kitchen.Give gifts and goods to some people you see but really never talk to. I love the thank you note thing. 3 thank you note a day,, for 30 days look for people that don't get them garbage men,the man down the street that aways waves and smiles to  everyone when they drives by. 3 a day for 30 day believe you me it is eye opening to the things we take for granted and don't know it. Now! is the time to learn how to be the real person you were meant to be.Tell stranger how much you love there pretty smile. And the mother that has such well behaved kids how beautiful they all are and your proud of her. or the mother, struggling with not so good, that you are a mom to and she is doing a great job.Find a book on 100 great deeds and pick some to do.LOVE GIVE THANKS pray to God and say lord weather you decide to take me or not I'm going out loving in a big way.  Bring your old magazines to a hospital waiting room to make patients' waits a little less nerve racking. Next time you do your grocery shopping, pick up a large bag of cat or dog food to donate to a local animal shelter. Volunteer to be a tutor in a school.Well you get the idea. All good stuff for people that dont expect it. Or save my blog and edit it haha I truely love you all.

I need you alls prayers.. really.I mean it I used to take in a homeless people, mother with a kid or too,some that was down on their luck as they say, not crazy dudes under the bridge, i love them too but not in the house. Forgive if that sounds bad.  and at one point said I'm not doing it any more. Welll ya here it comes.I took in a homeless couple. And that all I'm saying. We will see how it goes. Maybe I'll have some things New to blog about. FACTS, FADS AND FALLACIES ABOUT FASTING

Fasting is the oldest therapeutic method known to man. Even
before the advent of the "medicine man" and the healing arts, man
instinctively stopped eating when feeling ill and abstained from
food until his health was restored. Or perhaps he learned this,
the most efficient means of correcting any disease, from animals,
which always fast when not feeling well. Certainly, nature
provided man with a definite protective and health-restoring
alarm signal, which suggests to him to abstain from eating by
taking away his appetite for food.
Throughout the long medical history fasting has been regarded as
one of the most dependable curative and rejuvenative measures,
Hippocrates, "the Father of Medicine", prescribed it. So did
Galen, Paracelsus, and all the other great physicians of old.
Paracelsus called fasting "the greatest remedy; the physician
within". Fasting was practiced by many great thinkers and
philosophers, such as Plato and Socrates, to "attain mental and
physical efficiency". Most Eastern philosophers and super-yogis,
known for their long life, mental efficiency and spiritual aware-
ness, fast regularly, along with their meditation, to attain long
life and a high level of spirituality.

With the advent of modern, drug-oriented medicine, fasting has
fallen into disregard in the eyes of the orthodox practitioners.
We are living in the age of "diets", when almost half of the
population is constantly trying to "reduce" by way of countless
restricted diets of every imaginable description. But the
classic, and the best form of reducing - the total abstinence
from food, or fasting - is seldom tried. Those who employ
fasting, either for healing or reducing, are still looked upon as
crackpots, quacks, and health-nuts, to say the least.

MEDICAL SCIENCE REDISCOVERS FASTING

Happily all this has been rapidly changing. Doctors have stopped
laughing and started investigating. Many scientific studies and
clinical tests are being made, particularly in Europe, to
determine the prophylactic, therapeutic, and rejuvenating
properties of fasting. The Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, the
world-famous medical research institution, has made clinical
studies and experiments with fasting under the direction of Drs.
P.Reizenstein and J.Kellberg. They employed fasts up to 55 days
in their studies.

Perhaps these studies were inspired by the famous Swedish fast
marches of 1954 and 1964 which are described in detail in my book
HEALTH SECRETS FROM EUROPE (published by Parker Publishing Co.,
Inc., West Nyack, N.Y. 1970). In these experimental fast marches,
which made headlines in the world press, first 11 and then 19 men
walked from Gothenburg to Stockholm, a distance of over 325
miles, in 10 days. Throughout each march the participants fasted
- didn't eat any food at all! Dr.Lennart Edren, D.D.S., who
directed the fast marches, said after the 1954 fast march:
"This fast was the first in the series of experiments to de-
termine the effects of total fasting under severe conditions of
stress. If we find out that fasting will not cause any damage to
the body, but will, on the other hand, exert a beneficial,
revitalizing, cleansing and rejuvenating effect on bodily
functions, it will supply invaluable information for healthy as
well as for sick people. The healthy will be encouraged to fast
in order to rejuvenate and increase vitality, and the sick to
cure their ills. This experiment proved to the world the
preventive and the therapeutic potentials of fasting."

Dr.Karl-Otto Aly, M.D., one of the leading biologicallyoriented
doctors in Sweden, and one of the participants of the fast
marches, said:

"The march clearly showed that man can live for an extended
period of time without food, even accomplish a hard physical
effort while fasting. The general expressed feeling among
participants was that they felt stronger and had more vigor and
vitality after the fast than before it .... The prime goal of
these experiments was to stimulate scientific institutions to
engage in a thorough and objective scientific study of fasting
and its prophylactic and therapeutic potentials, so that fasting
will be generally incorporated into the growing arsenal of
medical practices for the benefit and blessing of a
disease-ridden mankind."

Dr.Ragnar Berg, one of the greatest nutrition experts in the
world and Nobel Prize winner, said after the Swedish fasts of
1954 that the successful completion of this unprecedented fast
was no surprise to him. He had fasted himself many times and also
had supervised many fasts, including one of over one hundred
days. He called the Swedish fast marches a "great scientific
success".

Are Waerland is another great Swedish health pioneer who
practiced and advocated fasting. Fasting is a standard initial
cleansing method in the world-famous Waerland Healing System.
(Incidentally, I have been extremely fortunate to have had both
Dr.Ragnar Berg and Are Waerland as my teachers and close
friends.)

In Germany, there are hundreds of clinics, operated by medical
doctors, where fasting is now employed on a grand scale. For
example, at the Buchinger Sanatorium in Bad Pyrmont fasting is
used initially in almost every condition of ill health. Well over
80,000 fasts were supervised by Dr.Otto H.F.Buchinger and his
father, both medical doctors, during their 50 years of practice.
Another great fasting specialist in Germany is Dr.Werner Zabel.

"Together with fever and optimal nutrition, fasting is man's
oldest and best healing method"; said Professor Zabel.

249 DAYS ON A LIQUID FAST!

At the Stobhill General Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, fasting
was clinically tested with remarkable results. One 54-year-old
woman with a painful arthritic condition and grossly overweight,
was put on a liquid fast for 249 days and lost 74 of her 262
pounds. Her arthritis cleared up completely, too!

THE REJUVENATING EFFECTS OF FASTING

The therapeutic effect of fasting is very well documented by the
actual clinical experience both in Europe and in the United
States. The records of the numerous American and European fasting
clinics prove the truthfulness of the statement by Dr.Adolph
Mayor, that "fasting is the most efficient means of correcting
any disease". Fasting is, indeed, in the words of Dr.Otto H.F.
Buchinger,Jr.,M.D., a "Royal Road to Healing".

Fasting has been used throughout history, and is used quite
extensively now, not only for the therapeutic purpose of healing
disease, but also for its obvious rejuvenating and revitalizing
effect. Thousands of people throughout the world fast regularly
not to cure any particular disease, but because they consider
fasting to be an effective way to cleanse the body from
accumulated wastes, build up the physical stamina and the
resistance against diseases, and revitalize and rejuvenate the
functions of all their vital organs. Particularly in Sweden
fasting has become a new national sport. This is done in groups
and individually, mostly without medical supervision, but
sometimes at the numerous health spas. The objective of these
fasts is the periodic body cleansing and total rejuvenation of
all the functions of the body. Contrary to the popular notion,
you don't get weakened or depleted by fasting; the opposite is
true. After fasting you will  feel stronger and revitalized; your
health condition will be markedly improved, your physical and
mental working capacity greatly increased. You not only will feel
revitalized but also will look younger than before fasting. And
this is not only because of lost pounds, but mostly because
fasting has such a profound rejuvenating effect on the functions
of all the vital organs, including the functions of the
all-important endocrine glands, which are so decidedly
responsible for how young or how old you feel and look.     

THE REMARKABLE CASE OF MISS A.L.

I have supervised hundreds of fasts, and have fasted many times
myself. I have seen many remarkable cases of the dramatic effect
of fasting upon patients who were ill, as well as upon those who
fasted primarily for the purpose of rejuvenating and revitalizing
themselves. Here is one recent case to illustrate the point.
Miss A.L. came to our Spa in a rather desperate condition. She
had been working most of her life in the field of health and
beauty. She had operated a figure control salon in Los Angeles
and helped countless women and men to better health and better
figures through proper exercises, plus a gym-type program of
steam baths, swimming and workouts. For years she had been a
wonderful advertisement for the effectiveness of her methods.
But, as a conventional saying goes, all good things must come to
an end. Time caught up with her. When she reached 45 her health
and her looks started to deteriorate. She began putting on weight
and, in spite of her rigid program of exercises, didn't seem to
be able to control it. The signs of premature aging appeared
suddenly. Her hair started to turn grey. Wrinkles appeared on her
face. In addition, she felt stiffness and pain in her fingers,
elbows and shoulders, which was diagnosed by her doctor as early
symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. Also, her complexion began to
deteriorate rapidly. Her skin was dry and lifeless, and patches
of psoriasis appeared behind her ears. She felt exhausted most of
the time and lost interest in her work. She sold her business and
tried to find new interests - without success.
In the meantime she developed an uncontrollable appetite and was
putting on pounds each week. She had always wanted to work with
young people and tried to get a job as a health, beauty and
personality counsellor in a home for young girls, but was turned
down because of her "age and overweight". This incident was a
great shock to her and a turning point in her life. She suddenly
realized that she had to do something, and do it fast, if she
didn't want to live the rest of her life in her words "as a fat,
old, sick blob."

She had noticed with a horror that people started to feel sorry
for her and that some of her former friends started to avoid her.
Her personality had changed. Her outlook on life was negative.
She had grown critical of everyone and everything, and her temper
was getting worse and worse. No wonder her circle of friends was
steadily diminishing.

There are hundreds of thousands of women who are in a similar
situation. They blame their "condition" on the "change of life"
and usually become resigned to the idea that they are becoming
old and that nothing can be done about it. But Miss L. was not
ready to give up. She decided to pull herself out of her dismal
condition. Although working most of her life in a figure control
and beauty field, she never thought much about nutrition and what
role it plays in health. However, when some friends showed her my
books and the advertisement for our health spa, she decided to
make a visit and give it a try.

Miss L. was 54 when she came under my care, weighed 184 pounds
and looked like 60. She told me frankly, that she didn't care
much about arthritis, but that she had to improve her looks and
her figure in order to "get that job" they refused her in Los
Angeles. She was ready to do anything!

I outlined a three-month program for Miss L. First, one month    
of fasting on juices. Then a controlled raw food diet with
special vitamins and mineral supplements for four weeks. After
that two more weeks of fasting and two weeks of dieting. I
promised that she would lose 50 pounds and look more like 40 than
60.

Miss L. followed my program religiously. 

She received two glasses of diluted fruit juice, one glass of
vegetable juice, one glass of vegetable broth, and two cups of
herb tea each day.* (See next chapter for detailed program and
recipe for vegetable broth). In addition, she could drink any
amount of plain water she wanted. She took long walks, up to five
miles a day. She was advised to take enemas twice a day. For
arthritis, she followed a special program of biological
treatments with dry brush massage, hot and cold showers, special
exercises, castor oil packs, and thermal baths. All symptoms of
her arthritis disappeared completely by the end of the first 30
day fast. And she had lost 28 pounds.

She lost an additional 12 pounds during the 30 days of raw food
diet. She ate three meals of the most delicious raw vegetables
and tropical fruits each day in addition to the regular juices...

During an additional two weeks of fasting Miss A.L. lost 12 more
pounds. By the end of three months, she had a total weight loss
of 52 pounds.

When she left the spa, Miss A.L. weighted 132 pounds. From size
20, she had reduced to size 12, and had to shop for some new
clothes before she could return to Los Angeles. She could neither
feel nor see any traces of arthritis whatsoever. And the
psoriasis patches behind her ears had vanished, too.
But you should have seen the change in her looks and her
personality! From being an old, tired, apathetic, discouraged and
disillusioned woman three months earlier, Miss L. now looked like
a young woman of 40, filled with energy and enthusiasm, full of
exciting plans for the future, determined to "get that job" she
had been refused. Her vitality and enthusiasm were limitless and
the change in her appearance was nothing but miraculous.

When she first began fasting, she was worried that if she lost
all of that fat, her skin would be looser and flabbier, and she
would look even more wrinkled. I assured her that with this kind
of scientific juice fasting and the intermittent diet of vital
foods and vitamin supplements, in conjunction with special
exercises and dry brush massage, her system would be supplied
with all the elements necessary for the effective regeneration
and revitalization of her glandular activity and skin activity.
Her collagen* (intercellular substance that holds cells together,
even the cells of the skin) - the deterioration of which is
mainly responsible for premature wrinkles - would be strengthened
and its elasticity restored; her new-cell building and cell
repair accelerated; her muscle tone improved; her complexion
receive new life. She was amazed at the fact that although she
had lost so much weight in such a short time, her skin was
tighter than before, her wrinkles were less noticeable and her
previously muddy and grey complexion had acquired a fresh,
radiant look.

WHY FASTING IS THE NUMBER ONE HEALER AND REJUVENATOR

As I suggested before, the main causes of disease and aging are
to be found in the processes of cell metabolism and cell
regeneration.

FIRST, as the famous Canadian "stress doctor" Hans Selye, said,
"Life, the biological chain that holds our parts together. is
only as strong as its weakest vital link." **You are as young or
as old as your smallest vital links - the cells. The aging begins
when your normal process of cell regeneration and rebuilding
slows down. This slowdown is caused mainly by the accumulation of
waste products in the tissues which interferes with the
nourishment of the cells. 

Each cell of your body is a complete living entity with its own
metabolism - it needs a constant supply of oxygen and sufficient
nourishment in the form of all the known nutritive substances.
When due to nutritional deficiencies, sluggish metabolism,
sedentary life, overeating and consequent poor digestion and
assimilation of food, lack of fresh air and sufficient exercise
and rest, our cells are deprived of the nourishment they need,
they start to degenerate and break down, the normal process of
cell replacement and rebuilding slows down and your body starts
to grow old, its resistance to diseases will diminish and various
ills will start to appear. This may happen at any age. Sluggish
metabolism, constipation, and consequent inefficient elimination
causes retention and accumulation of toxic wastes in the tissues
which interfere with the nourishment of the cells, causing
disease and premature aging.

(This is basically what the famous Charles Atlas "Health and
Strength" course explained and taught and gave the keys in diet
and exercise to keep your cells young and being replaced with
healthy cells that would retard the aging process - Keith Hunt).
 
SECONDLY, only about half of your cells are in the peak of
development, vitality, and working condition. One fourth are
usually in the process of development and growth and the other
fourth in the process of dying and replacement. The healthy vital
life-processes and perpetual youth are maintained when there is
perfect balance in this process of cell break-down and
replacement. If the cells are breaking down and dying at a faster
rate than the new cells are built, the process of aging will
begin to set in. Also, it is of vital importance that the aging
and the dying cells are decomposed and eliminated from the system
as efficiently as possible. Quick and effective elimination of
dead cells stimulates the building and growth of new cells.

Here's where fasting comes in as the most effective way to
restore your health and rejuvenate your body. During the fast the
process of elimination of the dead and dying cells is speeded up,
the new-building of cells is accelerated and stimulated. At the
same time the toxic waste products that interfere with the
nourishment of the cells are effectively eliminated and the
normal metabolic rate and cell oxygenation are restored.
How can the mere abstinence from food accomplish such remarkable
results? Here's how:

1. During a prolonged fast (after the first three days), your
body will live on its own substance. When it is deprived of the
needed nutrition, your body will burn and digest its own tissues
by the process of autolysis, or self-digestion. But your body
will not do it indiscriminately! In its wisdom - and here lies
the secret of the extraordinary effectiveness of fasting as
curative and rejuvenating therapy! - your body will first
decompose and burn those cells and tissues which are diseased,
damaged, aging or dead. In fasting, your body feeds itself on the
most impure and inferior materials, such as dead cells and morbid
accumulations, tumors, abscesses, damaged tissues, fat deposits,
etc. Dr.Buchinger Sr., one of the greatest fasting authorities in
the world, calls fasting - very pertinently - a "refuse
disposal", a "burning of rubbish". These dead cells and inferior
tissues are consumed and utilized first. The essential tissues
and vital organs, the glands, the nervous system and the brain,
are spared.

2. During fasting, while the old cells and diseased tissues are
decomposed and burned, the building of new, healthy cells is
stimulated and speeded up. This may seem unbelievable, since no
nourishment, or only a limited amount of nourishment (during a
juice fast), is supplied. But it is nevertheless a physiological
fact. During the famous Swedish fast marches it was observed that
the protein level of the blood (serum albumin reading) of fasting
people remained constant and normal throughout the fasting
period, in spite of the fact that no protein was consumed. The
reason for this is that proteins in your body are in the so-
called dynamic state; that is, they are changed from one stage to
another, being decomposed and resynthesized constantly and
re-used for various needs within the body. Amino acids, the
building blocks of proteins, are not wasted, but are released
from the decomposed cells and used again in the new-building of
young, vital cells. As you know, your cells are made mostly of
proteins and the complete set of all the essential amino acids is
needed for the effective building of cells. During fasting the
proteins needed for new cell building are resynthesized from the
decomposed cells. Thus the body is using and re-using the same
proteins and other nutrients over and over where they are needed.

3. During a fast, the eliminative and cleansing capacity of the
eliminative organs - lungs, liver, kidneys, and skin - is greatly
increased, and masses of accumulated metabolic wastes and toxins
are quickly expelled. For example, during fasting the
concentration of toxins in the urine can be ten times higher than
normal. This is due to the fact that the eliminative organs are
relieved from the usual burden of digesting foods and eliminating
the resultant wastes, and can concentrate on the cleansing of
old, accumulated wastes and toxins such as uric acid, purines,
etc. from the tissues.

This eliminative process is evidenced by the following typical
symptoms of fasting: offensive breath, dark urine, continuous and
generous discharge from the colon with enema, skin eruptions,
perspiration, catarrhal elimination of mucus, etc. Keep in mind
that the activity of the human bowel system is not limited to the
absorption of nutrients from the foods and the elimination of the
indigestible food residues. Bowels are also one of your
eliminative and detoxifying organs in a general sense: through
the intestinal walls the toxins and metabolic wastes from the
blood and tissues are discharged into the intestinal canal to be
excreted from the body. This internal excretion is accelerated
during fasting.

4. A fast affords a physiological rest to the digestive,
assimilative and protective organs of the body. After fasting,
the digestion of food and the utilization of nutrients is greatly
improved, and sluggishness and further waste retention is
prevented. The rejuvenated cells are thus supplied with nutrients
and oxygen more effectively.

5. Finally, the fast exerts a normalizing, stabilizing and
rejuvenating effect on all the vital physiological, nervous and
mental functions. The nervous system is rejuvenated; mental
powers are improved; glandular chemistry and hormonal secretions
are stimulated; biochemical and mineral balance in the tissues is
normalized.

It is easy to see from the above why fasting is such an effective
health-restoring and rejuvenating measure.
